  • Round 3 Preview - Second Quarter of the Draw

    1/18/08 5:07 PM | Cheryl Murray
     - In the third round two favourites will win and Tennistalk.com believe that there will be one tight match where the scandal crowd could be decicive.

Novak Djokovic (3) vs. Sam Querrey
This will be the first meeting between Serbia's Novak Djokovic and American Sam Querrey. Querrey has posted some impressive wins over Olivier Rochus and Dmitry Tursunov in the first two rounds, but Djokovic will be a tall task for the young American. Querrey has a big serve, but has very little to dent the serve of the Serb. Djokovic in 3.

Lleyton Hewitt (19) vs Marcos Baghdatis (15)
Hewitt and Baghdatis have met once before at Wimbledon in 2006; Baghdatis won in 4 tight sets. Based on their form, Baghdatis would have to be the clear favorite. Hewitt lost earlier in the year to a player ranked just inside the top 100 (Chris Guccione) and he struggled a bit in his second round match. However, Baghdatis is embroiled in a scandal that hit the Australian papers yesterday. He was photographed at a picnic with some Greek fans who were singing anti-Turkish chants during a match earlier in the tournament. If Baghdatis is distracted by the unwanted attention, expect Hewitt to take the win.

Vince Spadea vs David Ferrer (5)
To put it kindly, American Vince Spadea has already accomplished more than was expected of him by getting to the third round; but his run will most likely end here. Spadea lacks a big weapon to hurt Ferrer, whose quickness and retrieving skills frustrate even the most accomplished player. Ferrer should win in 3 comfortable sets.

    Djoker in 4

    Hewitt in 4

    Ferrer in 3

no Juan Carlos Ferrero vs. Roddick? That match is going to be AWESOME!

    U mean Ferrero vs Nalbandian.
That will be a great match and I think Nalbandian takes it in the fifth set.
Also think Baghdatis wins in 4 sets.

JCF vs. Nalbandian is my "main" preview. I'm writing it now. Of COURSE its gonna be awesome. But it won't go to 5 I don't think. JCF won't keep up with Nalbandian that long.

And NO WAY Marcos wins tomorrow. :) He gets distracted when nothing is going on sometimes much less this bru-haha

  • RickyDimon | 1/18/08 8:49 PM

haha woops yes I meant JCF and Nalby (I can't stop thinking about Roddick and Kohlschreiber. So epic). I think JCF will give him a battle. If Nalby really is 100 percent though, it will probably be 4 and not 5.

Hewitt would beat him regardless. He'll grill Baggy's forehand.

For all that the Safin Baghdatis match was entertaining, Marcos is lucky Safin is a headcase error machine. Some of those balls were out by 10 feet. Hewitt won't be so kind. And we all know what kind of attention span Baghdatis has.

That Roddick match was AMAZING. I've never seen a match differential like that before. Gotta hand it to 'ol Kohli.
