  • Preview Round 3 First Quarter,

    1/18/08 11:13 PM | Jonathan Morgan
     - Federer will ease into the fourth round and Gonzalez and Blake are heading for a tough meeting in the fourth round.

Roger Federer vs. Janko Tipsarevic: While Tipsarevic can be a tricky customer on some occasions, don't expect this to be one of them. Federer has been in stunning form in his first 2 matches, and this should be no different. Expect Federer to rout Tipsarevic and roll onto the fourth round.

James Blake vs. Sebastien Grosjean: The talented veteran Frenchie has won some tough matches to get into the 3rd round, but Blake has been on fire. The previous round, Grosjean produced a thrilling 5 set win over the Dutch qualifier Robin Haase who took out Ljubicic in the first round. Blake, however, has won both of his matches with the same whooping scoreline, only being broken twice in 6 sets. Blake should continue to show his superb form while Grosjean might not be at 100% after that tiring 5 setter. Blake should win in 3, 4 at the most.

Fernando Gonzalez vs. Marin Cilic: Another young talent is 19 year old Marin Cilic. With his 195 cm frame and big serve, it shouldn't surprise you that he is a Croat. He will try to use his size and serve to gain the upper hand in the match, and his volleys aren't half bad. Gonzalez's last match against Economidis was marred with pepper spray and overreaction from police. However, last year's finalist has been playing very well in his matches and should pull through this one with his powerful forehand. His solid backhand slice shot should be used as the new Plexicushion court takes slice very well and keeps it low. Low slice shots will not favor the tall Cilic. Expect Gonzalez to take it and set up a great 4th round battle clash with James Blake.
