Marcos Baghdatis dispelled thoughts that he may join the list of seeds tumbling out of this year's Wimbledon with a straightforward 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 win over another former semi-finalist Thomas Johansson
Maybe Johansson was still jaded from his round 1 marathon against Vince Spadea. Now 33, Johansson doesn't recover as sharply as he once did and he made far too many sloppy errors, 22 in total. The Swede is more than capable of going toe to toe with the game's hardest hitters but Baghdatis had the bigger game today, pummelling 32 winners
Baghdatis clinched victory with a backhand down the line and should be confident of progressing to the second week against Germany's Simon Stadler. Stadler, a big serving leftie qualifier, caused one of the first round's major upsets by taking out dark horse Ivo Karlovic and he backed that up today with a marathon against the hard-hitting Brazilian Thomas Bellucci 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, 6-7(5), 8-6.
Baghdatis is the highest seed remaining in the 2nd quarter and there's all to play for. He's got a great shot of equalling last year's run to the quarters, Feliciano Lopez looks to be the main threat to him doing so. Lopez who made the quarters back in 2005 eased past Roko Karanusic 6-3, 6-3, 6-4
All the talk is about the Swiss no 1 Federer but the Swiss no 2 Wawrinka isn't doing so bad either. He had a fabulous clay court season which took him briefly to the top 10 and seeded 13 here he could feature in the latter stages. He disposed of the dangerous Juan Martin Del Potro 7-6, 6-3, 7-5 today

Did you know that... Ivo Karlovic and Joachim Johansson shares the record of most aces (51) in a match.
