After being left for dead by most and one who looked to be one schnitzel away from retirement, Rainer Schuettler comes back in style.
Janko Tipsarevic is the type of player that seems to play average against players near his ranking, but when he plays a top 10 guy like Roddick, he brings out his best stuff.
This was a case of the former in this match. Janko seemed to be struggling with a thigh injury and was limping for parts of the match. He also played some wretched tactical decisions, and got jacked on a line call to end the 3rd. One could almost see him self-destructing as the weight of him being the favorite took its toll. Schuettler had lost 8 straight tie breaks before winning the 4th set breaker.
Rainer took his veteran experience and solid playing to the extreme, much like Clement did in his victory over the lesser experienced Cilic. This match was very similar. Except for the fact that Rainer went 2/11 on break points against Tipsarevic, an appaling number that simply won't get it done later on in the event.
Great solid play from the veteran Schuettler getting the job done.
Janko was struggling with an injury for much of the match, but his inexperience cost him here.
