  • Ferrer rolls over Tipsarevic - will meet Nadal in quarter finals

    4/24/08 4:51 PM | Cheryl Murray
Jankko Tipsarevic of Serbia was a factor in his match against Spain's David Ferrer for seven games. He managed to break Ferrer's serve twice in the opening set, once at 1-1, and again at 3-3. After that, the match was all about David Ferrer and the fact that Tipsarevic was fatigued.

Tipsarevic played a three hour match on Wednesday against Ecuador's Nicolas Lapentti; the effort it cost him to win showed today. Once Ferrer broke back for a second time, Tipsarevic visibly deflated. The Spaniard broke at 5-4 to take the first set 6-4.

The second set was completely dominated by Ferrer. Tipsarevic's game plan seemed to want to end points as quickly as possible, resulting in numerous ill-advised trips into net, even though most of his approach sailed well long. One deciding factor of the match was the Serb's first serve percentage, which was a shocking 29% for the match. Ferrer will meet the reigning king of clay, Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals.
