Tomas Berdych was able to sweep aside challenger Igor Andreev 6-4, 6-4, and set up a semifinal date with Rafael Nadal.
Berdych has been stunning all week, which is extremely strange considering his history. He is known as a player that can play like Federer one day and a Futures player the next. His inconsistency is the only thing that has been consistent in his career thus far.
But that has not been the story this week. Tomas has been playing lights out tennis, beating his opponents easily and soundly each round.
In this one, both men came out firing and simply pounding the ball. The match was pretty even for the first 8 games of each set with both men playing their game. Andreev served very well and was able to set up and dictate play with his powerful forehand. Berdych played his his risk high reward game nearly to perfection hitting winners easily off both wings.
At 4-4 in each set, Andreev appeared to get nervous and handed Berdych the break with some inexcusable errors and terrible play. Berdych capitalized on the only 2 break points he had and was able to serve both sets out easily. Berdych has still only been broken once this tournament and saved another 3 break points this match en route to the win.
Phenomenal play from Berdych all week continuing here. We can only hope it continues for a blockbuster semi with Nadal.
Some really brainless errors from Andreev in the 4-4 games in each set.

I'm guessing that Nadal will win and make this merely another typical Berdych tournament: he takes care of everyone he is supposed to take care of, but he gets completely blown out by anyone who is "supposed" to beat him.
Andreev was up 40-0 at 4-4 in the second set and then choked it.
