Andy Murray displays impressive tennis against a helpless Dmitry Tursunov
It is no secret that Scotland's Andy Murray has been struggling on clay in 2008. He kicked off the season by getting steamrolled by Novak Djokovic in the third round of Monte Carlo. Since then, the only win he has had on clay came as a result of a withdrawal by Juan Martin Del Potro in the first round of Rome. Until Monday that is. Granted Dmitry Tursunov is not exactly a clay court master tactician, but Murray played quite well, going for his shots and generally playing with the kind of confidence that he has not shown in quite some time.
The Scot broke early in the first set, at 1-1. Tursunov made a push on Murray's next serve, but Murray stayed mentally strong and held. Murray set up a set point on Tursunov's serve at 5-3, but the Russian saved that one to force the Scot to serve it out; he did so with authority.
Tursunov came out of the blocks in the second pumped up, and held in his first service game. That game would be his last hurrah for the match. Murray feasted on Tursunov's serve for the rest of the match, and as each game was won, the Scot exhibited more and more confidence. It could be that we will see the resurgence of Andy Murray. Murray plays Gilles Simon in the next round.

Tursunov plays quite poorly on clay. It neutralizes his only real weapon to speak of - the big forehand. On the other hand, Murray needed this kind of win for his confidence. We'll see what he can do against Simon.

Did you know that... Joachim Johansson and Ivo Karlovic shares the record of most aces (51) in a match.

Andy Murray didn't have to do too much - just watch Tursunov go through the process of doing himself in. Tursunov didn't play like he believed he could win.
