Serbian star Novak Djokovic made short work of four-time Artois champion Lleyton Hewitt on Friday in the quarter-finals.
Novak Djokovic played solid, if not brilliant, grass court tennis today to defeat Hewitt in easy straight sets. This win is the third time the Serb has beaten Hewitt and the second in 2008 (he beat Hewitt in straight sets in the Australian Open).
Hewitt’s once formidable serve let him down. He could not manage to get enough juice on it to give Djokovic pause. The rest of his game predictably followed suit. With his serve removed as a factor, the rest of Hewitt’s game felt the pressure of Djokovic’s ground strokes. He responded by spraying his forehand, netting his backhand and just generally “unforced erroring” himself right out of the tournament.
For Djokovic’s part, his ground strokes are as solid as ever. There are a few weaknesses in his game that his next opponent can exploit such as his tentative movement on grass and his play at net. On the whole, however, Djokovic looks in excellent shape to make a great run at Wimbledon.
Djokovic’s next opponent will be the tough Argentine David Nalbandian.
At least Lleyton Hewitt didn't retire
Hewitt made this match WAY too easy on Djokovic.
