Novak Djokovic found himself down a set an a break before rallying to beat Janko Tipsarevic in three.
For a set and a little more, it appeared that Queens Club would have it's first big upset of the tournament, but as all champions do, Novak Djokovic found a way to win.
Second seed Novak Djokovic began his match against Serbian compatriot Janko Tipsarevic flat of foot. Tipsarevic came out of the blocks on fire. His return game smothered Djokovic particularly on the second serve. Tipsarevic broke the second seed's serve twice yet faced no break points himself. As Tipsarevic closed out the first set for 6-2, Djokovic was in trouble.
Tipsarevic broke Djokovic again in the second set. It was at this point in the match that Djokovic woke up. That break would be the only game Tipsarevic would win in the second, as Djokovic proceeded to reel off the next six games. Unfortunately for the fans, this was more due to Tipsarevic's declining level of play than anything else, but Djokovic was solid enough to cash in on the opportunity.
The third set was more competitive, but once again the level of play is not, perhaps, what fans might have expected. Still, Djokovic did what he has done so often in the past year - he figured out a way to win. Djokovic will play an inspired (and former Queens Club champion) Lleyton Hewitt in the quarterfinals.
There was not much good to say about this match except that it went the distance.
Quite poor level of play from both players made for an unsatisfying match.
