David Ferrer became another victim of a resurgent Feliciano Lopez this week, going down 6-4, 6-3. It’s Lopez’s first semi-final since Stuttgart last summer
Although Ferrer took first blood in both sets, breaking to lead 2-1 in the first and 1-0 in the second, he was hit by strong Lopez comebacks both times. Both players struggled with their second serves (Lopez just winning 33% on it and Ferrer 40%) but it was Lopez who made his chances count more, converting 4/7 break points compared to just 2/6 for Ferrer
Lopez reeled off 3 straight games from 0-1 in the second to take full control and there was no way back for the 4th seed, Lopez finishing him off with an ace (his 10th of the match).
Speaking afterwards, Lopez commented on how much the conditions have suited his game this week “I feel really good on the court here in Dubai. The conditions are really good for me and right now I’m so happy. I beat Berdych yesterday, David today so happy to be in the semis again here. It’s definitely one of my favourite tournaments.”
The Spaniard was very surprised at the result of the second quarter-final, confidently talking about playing Andy Murray in the last 4 even before his match with Davydenko had started
