John Isner made the championship final in Winston-Salem by virtue of his straight-set victory over fellow American Andy Roddick. He will face qualifier Julien Benneteau for the title.

Fourth seed John Isner advanced to the final, having downed top-seeded compatriot Andy Roddick early Friday. After winning the opening-set tie-break, Isner trailed 1-3 in the second. The 26-year-old regrouped to 3-3, then earned a critical break to 5-4. He completed the semifinal with 35 of 41 first-service points captured through 95 minutes.

Qualifier Julien Benneteau reach his first final of the season, after rallying to oust 10th seed Robin Haase. The Dutchman served for the match at 5-4 in the final set, but gave away the break on a double fault. Benneteau served 11 aces and 10 double faults en route to a two-hour, 32-minute victory.

I really hate Roddick's attitude towards pretty much every tournament that's not a major. All he ever talks about anymore is getting match play, and he rarely if ever seems interested in actually WINNING the tournaments he enters. Perhaps this is why he's so spectacularly underperformed at pretty much every major since Wimbledon 2009, since it was around this time that it seems he first started displaying this attitude. Maybe it's Larry Stefanki's influence on him, who knows.

Quite a cliff-hanger! Julian's instinct for survival was on a par with his best-ever win when he surprised Federer at the Paris Masters. But Isner will be a different matter. He cant afford to give all those free points by DFing as often as he did last night.
