Top seed Andy Roddick made a successful start in Winston-Salem, having downed lucky loser Edouard Roger-Vasselin in straight sets. Joining the American is Alexandr Dolgopolov, who ousted Carlos Berlocq, 6-4, 6-4.

World No. 21 Andy Roddick regrouped after a first-round loss in Cincinnati, having ousted lucky loser Edouard Roger-Vasselin on Tuesday. The 28-year-old held 9 consecutive service games without facing a break point. Roddick completed the opening-round effort with three of 7 break points converted through an hour and 13 minutes.
He is slated to face either 15th seed Santiago Giraldo or Blaz Kavcic for a spot in the quarterfinal.

World No. 22 Alexandr Dolgopolov is through to the third round, following his straight-set success against Argentine Carlos Berlocq. The 22-year-old collected 8 aces and three service breaks, en route to a 6-4, 6-4 victory in 85 minutes of play. Dolgopolov improved his season record to 28-20.
He will take on 14th seed Grigor Dimitrov in the next round. The Bulgarian took out wildcard Donald Young in the second round, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(2).
