    World No. 5 David Ferrer reached the second round after downing Germany’s Dustin Brown in straight sets. The Spaniard is joined in round two by fellow seed Juan Martin Del Potro, who beat Dutchman Robin Haase in four.

    Seventh seed David Ferrer is through to the second round by virtue of his straight-sets ousting of qualifier Dustin Brown. The veteran tallied 29 winners and 4 aces through to a 7-6(5), 6-4, 6-4 victory in 116 minutes of play. Ferrer ended the first-round match with 68% of his second-service points won.

    He will take on France’s Kenny De Schepper for a place in the round of 32.

    (9) Juan Martin Del Potro def. Robin Haase 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(3), 7-5

    Ninth seed Juan Martin Del Potro made a successful start to the tournament, having upended Robin Haase in four sets. The 23-year-old collected 58 winners and 16 aces en route to a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(3), 7-5 win in two hours and 50 minutes. Del Potro completed the contest with four of 7 break points converted.

    He is slated to face Japan’s Go Soeda in the next round.
