  • Federer holds off Djokovic, reaches 8th Wimbledon final

    7/6/12 5:32 PM | Kelli DeMario
Six-time Wimbledon title-winner Roger Federer is through to a record-setting eighth final, having ousted World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in four sets. The veteran moves on to face Andy Murray or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Sunday.

Third seed Roger Federer advanced to Sunday’s final after taking out defending champion Novak Djokovic in four sets. The 30-year-old held all but one service game en route to a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory in two hours and 19 minutes.

With the match level at a set apiece, Djokovic had a break chance at 4-4 in set three. After saving break point, Federer took the third with aggressive play and an overhead smash. The world No. 3 kept momentum on his side to lead 3-0 in the fourth set.

Federer reached match point at 5-3, then sealed the match as Djokovic erred on the return.

The Swiss ended the semifinal with 31 winners and 12 aces.

He awaits either world No. 4 Andy Murray or world No. 6 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in Sunday’s final. Should he win Grand Slam title number 17, Federer will replace Djokovic as world No. 1 on Monday.

Congratulations Fed The True Champion.

Brilliant win from Fed played exceptionally to upset the World No.1 at the age of almost 31.

On the verge of getting back the spot he loved forever THE #1.Come on Rog do it.

Aleer Roger.

Showed the doubters and the haters again who the best of the best is. When Fed's head is in it the whole match still nobody better. Almost 31 and back getting stiffer by the day and still......

chr18 , 7/6/12 6:23 PM

Oh yes! Nice!
Well look at the bright side Holdserve, you get to use the evil eye for a couple of days more and hope for Roger to die or something this time around.

xrf , 7/6/12 6:44 PM

Yes brilliant play by Fed, simply had to marvel when he plays so well

hardly any shanks, hardly any UE and even won so many rallies against Novak who is one of best in long rallies

not seen him play this well since like RG 2011 semi again against Novak

sanju , 7/6/12 7:14 PM

well played fed. BOO to fedexal for his racism

willmw101 , 7/6/12 7:19 PM

Great win by the Maestro! Allez Roger!!

abhirf , 7/6/12 7:34 PM

apparently fedexal has been racist before on tennis talk.

Boris gave an excellent anlaysis on star sports..

He said pressure is a lot on Andy but cannot underestimate pressure on Roger, he said this could be his last Wimby final and he may want to have last hurray and No 1 on line too..

He though tipped Roger for the title because of experience

sanju , 7/6/12 8:23 PM

It will be a REAL emotional final. Both players have huge things to achieve if they win. It's difficult to predict a winner since I think it will be loaded with too much tension.

The one who can best manage the pressure will be the winner. I wanted this final, but I don't expect classy tennis due to all these.

Emiliano55 , 7/6/12 8:36 PM

sanju, Boris also said that the one who will start off better will have more chances of winning the match.

abhirf , 7/6/12 8:53 PM

This is more case for discussion that rog is the GOAT. Great performance and at almost 31 I simply cant get over it.

He pushed Nole aside today and I guess he will do the same to Murray. Hopefully not.

But still, returning to #1 in the world at his stage is remarkable and ya have to congratulate him. He's been very lucky with injuries throughout his career....

rafakid , 7/6/12 9:06 PM

I am a Rafa fan but I am thiking..maybe this final was right for Wimby 2012

Nole - Rafa in the final may have been too repititive 5 in a row and there wouldnt be so much emotional connect like in this Roger-Murray final

both have a lot at stake, Roger going for 17th, claming No 1 back, maybe pitching for one of his last hurrahs and Murray for his first slam and that too on home soil

Its too much sentmental and emotional and pressure is massive on both

Yes abhi..Boris said that too, Roger has been in this position many times, so he may be far better equipped, Murray will require massive pep talk by Lenl and Murrays family

"Federer holds off Djokovic, reaches 8th Wimbledon final"

Rafa has been there, done that and got the t-shirt.

nadline , 7/6/12 9:29 PM

He could be 2nd oldest #1 player after agassi and 2nd oldest wimbledon champion behind Arthur Ashe both in open era.

I am happy that Tsonga does not reach Final bcoz i do not want any big hitter against Roger on grass considering last 2 yrs result when they hit zone opponents hardly could do anything.
With murray it would be tactical and imo Roger could handle that.I am still feeling that there some problem in his FH side movement sometimes he hesitated to move that side against djokovic.

Whoa-oa-oa! I feel good, I knew that I would, now
I feel good, I knew that I would, now
So good, so good, I got you!
