7/31/08 4:24 AM | Cheryl Murray
British hopeful Andy Murray looks to improve on his semifinal result in Toronto, but first he had to get past the big serving American Sam Querrey.
Andy Murray had a scare early on in his second round match. Sam Querrey came out firing on all cylinders and broke Murray in his first service game. Querrey jumped to a 3-0 lead and looked as though he might cruise easily through the first set. The Scot did not as easily handle the pace from Querrey as he usually does. The American hit through Murray for most of the first set. Interestingly, Murray hit seven aces in the first set, Querrey hit just six.
The American played a dreadful tiebreak and he watched Murray walk away with the first set tucked neatly under his arm. The second set was all Murray. Querrey never held serve in the second set - the single game that he won was a service break in which Murray hit three double faults.
Murray will now play Dmitry Tursunov, who had a surprise win over Richard Gasquet in their second round match.
