Germany’s Tommy Haas caught a break, facing Amer Delic instead of Fernando Gonzalez in the Washington opening round.
Tommy Haas def. Amer Delic 6-2, 6-3
Tommy Haas was slated to face Chilean veteran Fernando Gonzalez in the first round, but Gonzalez withdrew from the event with a knee injury at the last moment to be replaced by Bosnian Amer Delic.
Delic proved to offer little resistance to the German veteran. Haas only faced one break point in the 1 hour 3 minute match. Haas secured 3 breaks of serve, 2 in the first set and another in the second.
The win sends the German into the second round against No. 12 seed Thomaz Bellucci.
