Monaco cruises into Vina del Mar quarterfinals

Top seed Juan Monaco is through to the final eight following his routine victory over Igor Andreev. The Argentine is joined in the quarterfinals by Frederico Gil, who took out fourth seed Pablo Andujar in straight sets.

World No. 29 Juan Monaco reached the last eight by virtue of his straight-set win against Russia’s Igor Andreev late Wednesday. After taking the opening set in 43 minutes, the Argentine continued his effort to lead 4-0 in the second. He ended the one-hour, 16-minute match with six breaks of serve.
Monaco is scheduled to meet 5th seed Albert Montanes for a place in the semifinals. The Spaniard dismissed qualifier Rogerio Dutra Silva in the round of 16, 7-5, 6-2.
Frederico Gil def. (4) Pablo Andujar 6-2, 6-1
Frederico Gil advanced to the quarterfinals after upsetting fourth seed Pablo Andujar, 6-2, 6-1. The 26-year-old converted six of eight break points, through to a straight-set victory in just 57 minutes. Gil completed the afternoon with 21 of 23 first-service points captured.
He will take on Jeremy Chardy in the next round. The Frenchman defeated Leonardo Mayer in the round of 16, 7-5, 6-2.
