Four-time champion Fernando Gonzalez reached the second round Tuesday afternoon, having ousted Spain’s Pere Riba in straight sets. The veteran is joined by fifth seed Albert Montanes, who beat qualifier Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo.

Wildcard Fernando Gonzalez is through to the round of 16, following his straight-set victory over Pere Riba. The Chilean won his first match of the season, having held on to dismiss the Spaniard in 89 minutes. He completed the opening-round effort with five aces and four of six break points converted.
Gonzalez will take on Joao Souza for a place in the quarterfinals. The Brazilian rallied to upset 8th seed Filippo Volandri in the first round, 1-6, 7-5, 7-6(5).
(5) Albert Montanes def. (Q) Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo 6-2, 6-4
Fifth seed Albert Montanes advanced to round two with a 6-2, 6-4 victory against qualifier Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo on Tuesday. The veteran collected six service breaks through to a win in 80 minutes. Ramirez Hidalgo committed 10 double-faults during the first-round match.
Montanes is slated to meet qualifier Rogerio Dutra Silva in the second round. The Brazilian defeated Maximo Gonzalez in the opening round, 0-6, 7-6(3), 6-3.
