Novak Djokovic drops a set but then bounces back to defeat fellow Serb Janko Tipsarevic on Thursday. Djokovic is through to the U.S. Open semifinals and he awaits either Roger Federer or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Novak Djokovic improved his 2011 record to 62-2 on Thursday at the U.S. Open, but not before a minor scare.
Djokovic survived two tiebreak sets then prevailed 7-6(2), 6-7(3), 6-0, 3-0 via retirement from Janko Tipsarevic during semifinal action at the season's final Grand Slam. The world No. 1 advanced to a showdown with either Roger Federer or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga after three hours and 20 minutes.
Tipsarevic sent a message right away that he was not out there just to be part of Djokovic's show. The underdog broke serve to open the match and even though he gave back two breaks, he recovered to force a first-set tiebreaker. Djokovic seized a quick mini-break for 2-0, raced to a 6-1 advantage, then capitalized on his second set point at 6-2.
Playing like he had nothing to lose, Tipsarevic broke immediately in the second just as he done in the first and this time he consolidated the lead to 3-0. Again, though, Djokovic got the break back after which seven straight holds paved the way to another tiebreaker. Tipsarevic pocket an initial mini-break, gave it back, then won five of the last six points--including the final three--to level the match in surprising fashion.
Djokovic was quick to restore order to the proceedings. The top seed battled through a deuce service game to begin set three before racing away from his opponent. Djokovic broke easily in the second, fourth, and sixth games to earn his 13th 6-0 set of the season.
Tipsarevic ended the third frame of play with a double-fault and it got no better for him the rest of the way. The 20th-ranked Serb continued to labor from a leg problem and dropped serve early to fall into a 2-0 hole. He attempted to come back out for his service game at 0-3 but called it quits after three points.
Djokovic wrapped up his effort with 35 winners and 40 unforced errors. He recorded eight aces and two double-faults while serving at 65 percent.

You're so right Nadline. The match was fixed, the result never in doubt. I saw them work their deal in the locker room. Djokovic promised Tipsarevic half his prize money and said Tipsy would get his due credit when Novak publishes his autobiography in 2020, and comes out with his darkest secrets, ala Andre Agassi.
Please stop this cheat right now! If you want to save tennis, vote for our petition so that we can ensure tennis returns to its glory days of Federer vs Nadal in the finals. Their farts make fans delirious and the result is oh so unpredictable when they play each other.

I wasn't suggesting that the match was a fix, I was just teasing Cheryl whose blog described Rafa's win over Mahut as a 'free pass' because Mahut retired. I watched the match and I think Tipsa tried his best in the first 2 sets.
