Twenty-first seed Andy Roddick advanced to the quarterfinal, after posting a four-set victory over fellow seed David Ferrer. The veteran is slated to meet defending champion Rafael Nadal in the next round.
Former US Open champion Andy Roddick is through to the final eight, following his four-set success against fifth seed David Ferrer. The 29-year-old American passed through the round of 16, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Roddick had trailed by a break in the fourth, but came back to break Ferrer twice in the set.
“The shorter the points the better for me. I served and volleyed a lot, came in a lot. You don’t play the same way all the time. You play a certain game plan against a certain person. I executed very well,” Roddick explained.
He completed the fourth-round effort with 41 winners and 19 aces.
Looking ahead to his next opponent, the American said, “It will be tough. Playing Nadal isn’t as physical as playing Ferrer, style of points-wise. It’s the quarters of the Open. We’ve got a weekend to play. We’ll roll the dice and see what happens.”
