Juan Carlos Ferrero def. Marcel Granollers 6-4, 6-3
Juan Carlos Ferrero advanced to his first semifinal of the season, having ousted fellow Spaniard Marcel Granollers Friday afternoon. The veteran secured five of 10 break chances through an hour and 28 minutes of play. Granollers struggled with his second serve, unable to win more than 27% of the points.
"Today I felt better than in the other matches, maybe I played my best tennis of the tournament," said Ferrero. "I know Granollers very well and I knew how I had to play against him. I still think I need to be more solid during the points and I have to be a little more consistent."
Ferrero is slated to face Federico Del Bonis for a place in the final. The Argentine qualifier defeated qualifier Pavol Cervenak in the quarterfinal, 6-1, 6-2.
