Second seed Janko Tipsarevic passed into the final eight, following the retirement of opponent Michael Berrer. Fourth seed Marin Cilic also advanced, having rallied to oust Somdev Devvarman in three sets.

World No. 13 Janko Tipsarevic made the last eight by virtue of the retirement of Michael Berrer late Thursday. The 27-year-old had built a 6-3, 2-0 lead when the German called it a day with illness. Tipsarevic converted three of 6 break points through 54 minutes of play.
He will face Potito Starace for a place in the semifinal. The Italian upended 8th seed Dmitry Tursunov in the round of 16, 6-2, 6-4.
(4) Marin Cilic def. Somdev Devvarman 5-7, 6-1, 6-3
Fourth seed Marin Cilic is through to his 10th quarterfinal of the season, having rallied to dismissed Somdev Devvarman in three sets. The 23-year-old tallied 13 aces and five service breaks, en route to a 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 victory in two hours and 16 minutes. Cilic improved his 2011 season record to 40-20.
He is slated to take on either Igor Andreev or Andreas Seppi in the quarterfinal.
