Defending champion Andy Murray advanced to the final four after taking out qualifier Matthew Ebden in straight sets. The Scot is through to face Kei Nishikori for a place in the championship final.
World No. 4 Andy Murray remains on course to capture a third straight title, having upended Australian qualifier Matthew Ebden late Friday. The 24-year-old held eight of eight service games, through to a 6-3, 6-2 victory in an hour and 25 minutes.
Murray passed through the quarterfinal untroubled, with seven consecutive games won from 2-3 in the first set. He completed the effort with seven aces and four of 11 break points converted.
"I created a lot of chances," said Murray. "I had game points in almost every one of his service games during the match. (But) I could have done with being a bit more clinical.
"I feel like I can play better. I served well so far. But I think I can hit the ball a bit better from the back of the court. And, like I said a few days ago, it's different conditions to the last couple of weeks. Maybe still adjusting a bit."
Murray will take on Kei Nishikori in the next round. Nishikori defeated 12th seed Alexandr Dolgopolov in the quarterfinals, 6-4, 6-3.
