10/13/11 2:14 PM | Cheryl Murray
After a slow start, Alexandr Dolgopolov dismantled Australia’s Bernard Tomic to earn a spot in the Shanghai quarterfinals.
Due to inclement weather, this match was moved to an inside practice court that had no television cameras and little room for fans to enjoy the proceedings.
Still, Dolgopolov reportedly put on an impressive display in the second and third sets after dropping the first set 7-5.
The second set featured some bizarre statistics. Dolgopolov served at just 31% for the set and still only lost one game. The Ukrainian broke Tomic’s serve in every service game; the only game won by the Australian in the set was a service break.
Tomic continued to struggle in the third set. The Australian won just eight points total in the entire frame while Dolgopolov ran the board and won the decider 6-0.
