  • Federer brings swift end to Seppi's Rome run

    5/19/12 4:19 AM | Ricky Dimon
Roger Federer stops Andreas Seppi in straight sets on Friday in Rome. While Seppi's run comes to an end, Federer carries his hot streak into a semifinal showdown against Novak Djokovic.

Roger Federer rolled over Andreas Seppi 6-1, 6-2 in the quaterfinals of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia on Friday night. Federer needed just 54 minutes to book a spot alongside familiar foe Novak Djokovic in the semis.

Seppi had played for a total of six hours and 11 minutes throughout back-to-back epic wins over John Isner and Stanislas Wawrinka. It certainly showed against Federer, as the world No. 30 fell behind 5-0 in barely more than 10 minutes. Seppi won three points in the first five games, including none on return.

A raucous Roman crowd was in a permanent frenzy over Seppi in rounds two and three and it did not let its man go down without a fight. The Italian finally got on the scoreboard with a love hold for 1-5 and even saw a break chance in the following game. Federer saved it after a brief rally, however, then won the next two points to clinch the set.

Seppi held easily to begin the second before earning two more break-point opportunities. After missing again, the underdog held for 2-1 and that would be his last highlight of the day. Federer promptly reeled off five straight games on the way to a routine win.

The second-ranked Swiss recorded one ace and one double-fault. A beleaguered Seppi wrapped up his incredible week with no aces and one double-fault.

Great match from Roger.

We got to see almost every shot in the book.

More than the titles and success it is the tennis show that Roger puts on that I'll miss the most.

HOPP Roger!!!
