  • Nalbandian win sets up Murray meeting in round 2

    5/14/12 10:07 PM | Cheryl Murray
Despite some difficulty closing out the match, David Nalbandian advanced with a straight-set win over Albert Ramos.

Dave Nalbandian def. Albert Ramos 6-3, 6-4

This wasn’t the cleanest match David Nalbandian has ever played. The Argentine was moving along nicely in the first set and the first part of the second set. Albert Ramos didn’t have much answer for the baseline game of the Argentine; until most of the way through the second set.

Nalbandian went up a double-break in the second set, but Ramos was able to snag one of the breaks back. It was too little, too late for the Spaniard, however. Nalbandian managed to right the ship to set up a second-round showdown with Andy Murray.

Fernando Verdasco def. Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-0 (ret.)

This match was over before it really began. The Ukraine’s Alexandr Dologpolov suffered from abdominal pain that kept him from performing in the first set and eventually saw him out of the tournament before the second set.

Verdasco’s win sets up an absolute blockbuster of a second-round match with countryman David Ferrer.

this isn't the 2010 U.S. Open. This is real clay. Ferrer will destroy Verdasco.

Agree with Ricky here. On true clay, Ferrer will win.
