Rafael Nadal continued his march into the Doha finals with an easy straight-set victory over Serbia’s Viktor Troicki.
Spain’s Rafael Nadal showed Viktor Troicki the same brutal efficiency he showed his other competitors this week. The Spaniard enters Saturday’s final not only having won every set he’s played, but also having not allowed his opponents more than three games in any of those sets.
Troicki offered the in-form Nadal no resistance in the first set. The world No. 2 danced through the set facing no break points, but breaking Troicki three times for a 6-1 lead.
The Serb offered a token resistance in the second set. Nadal breezed through the set with a double break, but at the tail end of the set, he was broken at 5-1. Except for that one small hiccup, the Spaniard played superb tennis.
Nadal smacked a whopping 36 winners to just 15 unforced errors. Added to that, the No. 2 seed seems to be working on his net game. He made an unusual number of forays into net, even testing out a serve and volley tactic at times.
Nadal will take on the on-fire Russian Nikolay Davydenko in Saturday's final.

Cheryl will probably withhold her pick until her article
I'll say Davydenko 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-3

WTF 2nd set an agressive rafa pushed davy to the very limits despite that match being on an indoor hard nd davy being on fire. Nadal is playing wayyy too agressively now and he can dictate play.its imporant to hit hard and not be too much predictable with the cross court. davy can absolutely win but i will go with rafa in 3 sets.expect super long rallies often ending in highly quality winners! 7-5 4-6 6-4 rafa !
vamosrafa , 1/8/10 11:12 PM
Well said, Vamosrafa, Nikolai is on fire, but so is Rafa. He avenged his loss to Soderling at the WTF at the exhibition and now he's going to do the same with Davy in this title match. Rafa has a hit list of people who are going down and Davy is next! And it won't be pretty! Davy will fight at first, but as the match progresses, Rafa will bury him.

I hope Rafa wins as it will be good for his confidence. I say Rafa in three tight sets, maybe one to go to a tie-break. Rafa must fight fire with fire plus extra fire, ie hit harder than Davy and try to blow him off the court, on top of doing what Davy can do, ie work the angles, take the ball early, serve well, essentially playing aggressively. I think he can do that. Vamos Rafa!
luckystar , 1/9/10 4:38 AM
if davy is to win he shud to it in 2 otherwise rafa will overwhelm him if it goes to set no.3
vamosrafa , 1/9/10 2:27 PM
excellent point vamosrafa.....i hope rafa gives his best in the first 2....the third one will be won more on fitness!

I am glad see how strong Davydenko has been playing last couple of months. And how aggressively Rafa has been playing since the DC.
It's been a while since the two have met on hard surfaces when Rafa was not in a weakened state (not trying to make excuses, just stating facts). Should be a great match.
