Michael Berrer defeated Philipp Petzschner in the semifinals of the Zagreb Indoors on Saturday evening to set up an encounter with No 1 seeded Marin Cilic.
Michael Berrer continued his fine form indoors to reach his maiden tour level final. The German - who won a Challenger title in Heilbronn last week - recorded a 7-6(6), 7-5 victory over compatriot Philipp Petzschner.
World No. 65 Berrer is yet to drop a set this week, but he was forced to contest a tricky first frame of play before forging ahead against Petzschner. Berrer, who has served well all week, won 17 of 21 points behind his first delivery and converted one of two break chances he created. Petzschner also claimed a single break and Berrer therefore had to play his second tiebreak of the tournament.
The ‘breaker was a tight and tense battle, but Berrer clinched it 7-6 to leave Petzschner faced with the task of recovering from a set behind for the fourth consecutive match.
Petzschner’s first serve worked particularly well in the second frame of play and he dropped just one of 17 points when he made it. The world No. 84’s second delivery, however, was decidedly shaky and it yielded him just five of 15 points played. Berrer won 74 per cent of points behind his first serve and he managed to stave off both of the break points he faced. He converted his only break opportunity of the set late on to seal a hard-fought victory.
Berrer - who hit five aces and just one double fault against Petzschner - will face Marin Cilic in the final on Sunday afternoon. The No. 1 seed and defending champion clinched his fourth straight-set victory of the week to see off Jurgen Melzer.

croc - I just don't understand why you not only read an article, but also comment on it multiple times if you don't care about it. Don't read the article if you don't care about the match.

Cilic should win this title

Cilic won in 3 tough sets, Rickydimon why dont you write an article about David Nalbandian?
tennis2010 , 2/7/10 8:52 PM
there's nothing to write about David Nalbandian. He never plays anymore.

i don't see the point of writing an article about the match if you are only repeating the stats.
