Guillermo Canas used all his experience as the weather forced a waiting game on Thursday at the Ordina Open
In between rain delays Canas was able to see off the threat of Serbian qualifier Victor Troicki 6-2, 6-2. It's not been a great season for Canas, this is his first ATP semi-final since Las Vegas back in February.
To put Canas away even on a fast court you need to serve well and Troicki looked a little flat throughout, probably still recovering from that dramatic win over Ljubicic in round 2. His serve is normally a weapon but he only won 50% first serve points and got broken 5 times, struggling to live with the Argentine's intensity around the baseline
Canas' compatriot Juan Martin Del Potro came from behind to take out the experienced Arnaud Clement 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 in just over 2 hours. Clement likes to dictate, taking shots very early off both sides and he exposed Del Potro's suspect movement in the first set. However he missed chances to take a grip on the match at the start of the 2nd and once Del Potro found his range, Clement couldn't live with him. It's been a long time coming for the Argentine, his last ATP semi-final was back in January 2007 !
Marc Gicquel powered his way into the last 4, overcoming Austria's Jurgen Melzer surprsingly easily 6-3, 6-4
