Nicolas Mahut eases past Diego Junqueira in straight sets on Tuesday in Metz. Igor Sijsling also advances with a straight-set upset of Grigor Dimitrov.
Nicolas Mahut d. Diego Junqueira 6-3, 6-2
Mahut treated the French crowd to a near-flawless performance on serve during first-round action at the Moselle Open on Sunday. The world No. 92 fired seven aces and lost a mere six points in nine service games as he crushed Junqueira in exactly one hour.
Junqueira at least managed to be competitive in the opening set, but Mahut needed just one break before serving it out at 5-3. From there it was all over for the 30-year-old Argentine, who won only two return points during the second. Mahut finished off the match on serve at 5-2 and now awaits an all-French showdown with either Michael Llodra or Arnaud Clement.
(Q) Igor Sijsling d. Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 6-2
Sijsling had already qualified for the main draw and he kept up his momentum by trouncing Dimitrov in the first round of the Moselle Open on Tuesday afternoon. The 148th-ranked Dutchman fired 10 aces and advanced after just 53 minutes of play.
Dimitrov donated serve twice in each set and never got back any of the breaks. The 20-year-old Bulgarian had two break chances in the first, but he won only two points in four return games during the second. Sijsling, a Dutchman ranked No. 148 in the world, won 22 of 24 first-serve points throughout the course of the match.
