Novak Djokovic rolls over Oscar Hernandez in the second round of the Masters Series Madrid on Wednesday afternoon. Next up for Djokovic is Andreas Seppi.
Novak Djokovic kept up his hot streak with little difficulty on Wednesday, dispatching Oscar Hernandez 6-3, 6-3 in his opening match at the Mutua Madrilena Madrid Masters. Djokovic needed one hour and 38 minutes to to set up a rematch of last week's Belgrade semifinal against Andreas Seppi.
Right from the start this was nothing other than routine for Djokovic. He lost seven of 10 second-serve points in the first set, but he served well enough and won an impressive 18 of 19 first-serve points to take care of all five of his service games. The world No. 4 capitalized on one of four break chances to breeze through the opening frame of play.
Hernandez simply had no answer for Djokovic's superior baseline play in the second set. The 31-year-old Spaniard, who got a wildcard spot in the tournament, tried to mix things up with drop-shots, but that idea rarely worked. Djokovic went up a quick break in set two and never looked back, once again never facing a break point. Madrid's No. 3 seed put in 70 percent of his first offerings and started doing a much better job on second serve. Djokovic's third break of the afternoon finished off Hernandez in style.
Seppi and Djokovic have squared off on five previous occasions and the Serb has won every single one. He lost the first set of last week's Belgrade semifinal, but he thrilled the Serbian fans by coming back to win in three on his way to the title. In addition to that triumph, Djokovic also finished runner-up to Rafael Nadal at the past two clay-court Masters Series events.
