Tournament seed Viktor Troicki is through to the round of 16, after posting a three-set victory over John Isner late Wednesday. The Serbian is joined by Marin Cilic, who upset 16th seed Juan Martin Del Potro.

    (16) Viktor Troicki def. John Isner

Sixteenth seed Viktor Troicki made the third round following his 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win against John Isner. After splitting the first two sets, Troicki built a 3-0 advantage in the deciding set. He completed the effort with 9 aces and four of 5 break points converted. Isner was playing his second match of the day, having downed Marcos Baghdatis early Wednesday.

Troicki will take on 5th seed Gael Monfils in the round of 16. The Frenchman dismissed qualifier Alex Bogomolov in the second round, 6-2, 7-6(5).

Marin Cilic def. (16) Juan Martin Del Potro 6-3, 6-4

Marin Cilic advanced to the round of 16, by virtue of his straight-set ousting of 16th seed Juan Martin Del Potro. The 22-year-old held 10 consecutive games without facing a break point. Cilic ended the 84-minute match with two service breaks and 26 of 28 first-service points captured.

He is scheduled to meet World No. 1 Novak Djokovic for a place in the quarterfinal. Djokovic defeated former World No. 3 Nikolay Davydenko in the second round, 7-5, 6-1.

Well played Cilic! Great result! Hope he is getting some confidence back. Anyone see the match? Lucky?

Hi deuce, I fell asleep during some of the matches, so didn't get to see Cilic vs Delpo in full. They were tied at 2-2 then there was the rain delay and then I fell asleep. These NA tournaments are such a torture for us from Asian time zone. Yes I'm so happy for Cilic, after all he used to lose to Delpo and only had beaten him once at AO last year. Was he playing well or was Delpo playing so so? It seemed that Cilic was serving very well, based on what I understand from this article. Let's see if Cilic can get lucky against his next round opponent, someone who is at the top of his game right now and whom Cilic has never beaten before.

Well at least there's some good news for one of my favorites, after watching in horror how Rafa managed to lose a match he ought to win in straights!

Oooh big result for Cilic! It's about time he started living up to his potential. It seems like a pretty straightforward win, I wonder if Delpo just wasnt into it.

Wow,
I didn't see much of an all court game from Puss N Boots last night Luckystar, he was well behind the baseline playing within himself (understandable for a 1st match), I was too tired to stay till the end, BUT!
Quite a shock!
Clearly he got afflicted with a bit of what M Bear had yesterday (match wobbliness). It makes me more sympathetic to both of them actually, so I don't think theres really much to worry about as its early days.
Much more impressive & all-courty to me was Cilic, I couldnt believe how well & he played, and with such confidence!
Granted Delpos forehand was misfiring but Cilic never gave him a chance.
I've never seen a big guy like that be so willing to come into the net...with such great results, very promising, very impressive and he'll be a big threat in NYC.

sosueme, Rafa did come to the net and had some nice volleying, however as his serves deteriorated during the match, he was busy defending his second serves and Dodig did play and serve aggressively. Rafa had so many chances to win the match and was even serving for the match but failed big time. We see a nervy Rafa these days, don't know when he can calm down and return to the 'old' Rafa mode!

I didn't watch the Cilic/Delpo match in full so I'm happy hearing that he played well and was coming to the net more often. I hope he can continue his good run and plays the good old game that I have seen him played so well in the past, ie from late 2009 to early 2010, especially during the USO 09 and AO 10.

Im guessing that the volleying took place at the start of the match while he was thumping Dodig handily (didn't see the 1st set).
I collapsed in drunken fatigue around about 3pm (alcopops have that effect on me) London time when I thought all was reasonably well @ 33 in the 3rd.
You got to hand it to Dodie though, he was brave and tenacious.
Anyhoo Cincy is hot enough to fry an egg on your tummy with, so Puss n Muzzy shall at least be well rested to put up a good fight with that one (& the big NYC).
