Fifth seed Gael Monfils survived a strong test from round of 16 opponent Viktor Troicki Thursday evening. The Frenchman came through the match in three sets, 3-6, 7-6(0), 7-6(5).
World No. 7 Gael Monfils is through the Rogers Cup quarterfinal, having rallied to outlast 12th seed Viktor Troicki. The 24-year-old saved a trio of match points en route to a 3-6, 7-6(0), 7-6(5) victory in two hours and 36 minutes.
Troicki served for the match at 5-4 in the third set, but failed to close. Monfils took a 2-0 advantage in the final set tie-break, then reached four match points at 6-2. After missing three chances, the Frenchman ended the match with an ace.
Monfils completed the effort with 3 aces and 8 of 12 break points saved.
He will take on World No. 1 Novak Djokovic for a place in the semifinal. The top seed defeated Marin Cilic in the round of 16, 7-5, 6-2.

Victor deserved this... With so passive game, he simply asked Le Monf "can I win now?" He had game, stats, everything on his side except heart to make closure on shots... Monf didn't deserved win, as he struggled whole match, but he showed guts in crucial moments unlike Victor.
Whole match could be summed in 51 shot rally... It was lethargic shot out, like passing hot potato to each other. On 51 shot brilliant idea come to Monf, "what will happen if i send ball in opposite corner of Victor". And Victor??? I think he continued to hit virtual ball, stuck in his place...
This is not first time Victor lost games he already had, and every and each time it is happening as he is unable to convert points and close out he match.
