World No. 1 Novak Djokovic overcame a slow start to his opener with former World No. 3 Nikolay Davydenko Wednesday afternoon. The top seed came through the match in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1.
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic advanced to the round of 16, having held on to oust Nikolay Davydenko in straight sets. The 24-year-old trailed by 1-4 in the first set, but rebounded to reach 4-4 with aggressive baseline play. Djokovic fell to 4-5 before taking three consecutive games to 7-5.
A steadied World No. 1 upped his level to a 4-0 advantage in set two. He completed the afternoon with seven of 14 break points converted through an hour and 36 minutes.
Djokovic is slated to meet either 16th seed Juan Martin Del Potro or Marin Cilic for a spot in the quarterfinal.
