  • Murray bombs out of Montreal

    8/9/11 9:40 PM | Cheryl Murray
Andy Murray suffered the worst defeat since his second round exit to Alex Bogomolov at the Miami Masters at the hands of Kevin Anderson.

Kevin Anderson of South Africa capped the biggest win of his career in a straight set drubbing of No. 4 seed and defending champion Andy Murray. The loss makes 3 consecutive opening matches lost by Murray during hardcourt Masters events this year.

Anderson played well, but by the second set, he probably needn’t have. Murray grew appeared to grow increasingly disinterested as the match progressed.

The Scot put up at least a little resistance in the first set, though his return of serve was by and large absent. Anderson did not face a single break point as he surged to a 6-3 lead.

With the first set lost Murray completely lost his way in the second. Anderson was forced to do nothing but keep the ball in play, while the Scot gave away the match a game at a time.

Anderson’s win leaves the third quarter of the draw wide open, with American Mardy Fish as the other top seed in the section.

Words escape me right now regarding Andy's performance. Where is his motivation?

perhaps, he is saving himself for the uso?

rfzr, that's the most charitable explanation I've read so far!
Kevin played well apparently, Andy was shocking! It's not Novak's diet he needs, it's his blooming iron will and desire to win! Andy needs a coach- NOW! Unless something dramatic happens he's going right down the rankings. He's just lost 1000 points here. Serve him right for saying he can overcome Fed!
Meanwhile, how's young Tomic doing...;)

Murray's performance, to me, was nothing short of dismal. Anderson bought his game today and Murray failed to keep up. Honestly speaking, I don't think he should've took so much time off after Wimbledon. If I were him, I would've gone back and played the L.A. event again this year. He hasn't exactly had all that good of a year, so the extra match practice would've done him some good. For a guy with so much talent and potential, Andy sure hasn't given his fans or his camp anything to get excited about this season.
