• Del Potro cruises into second round

  Former finalist Juan Martin Del Potro eased into the Rogers Cup second round, following his 6-3, 6-0 victory against veteran Jarkko Nieminen.
  
  World No. 19 Juan Martin Del Potro made a successful start to the tournament, having downed Jarkko Nieminen in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. The 22-year-old led 2-0 in the opening set, then continued the momentum to sweep the second.
  
  Del Potro completed the first-round effort with 14 aces and four service breaks collected through 69 minutes.
  
  He is scheduled to face Marin Cilic for a spot in the round of 16. Cilic defeated Andreas Seppi of Italy in the opening round, 7-5, 6-4.
