Gulbis is on an unlikely win streak, having won his last tournament in the US Open Series even in Los Angeles. Gulbis has take out Juan Carlos Ferrero and now Michael Llodra so far at the Montreal Masters.

Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka had no difficulty getting past American qualifier Michael Russell on Wednesday. The Swiss secured a trio of service breaks, while maintaining a tight hold on his own serve. Russell earned 2 chances to break serve, 1 in each set, but he couldn’t cash in.
Wawrinka served at 63% for the match with a pair of aces. The win sends the Swiss into the third round against Kevin Anderson, who upset Andy Murray in the second round.
