  • Benneteau pulls out hurt, Murray advances in Monte Carlo

    4/19/12 5:45 PM | Cheryl Murray
Julien Benneteau was putting Andy Murray through his paces, but the Frenchman got hurt at the tail-end of the first set and had to withdraw.

Earlier this week, Argentina’s Juan Monaco stumbled in his match and sustained an injury that forced him from the tournament. On Thursday, Julien Benneteau of France stumbled at the same spot and badly injured his ankle and wrist.

The timing was unfortunate for Benneteau. The Frenchman’s level of play was higher than Murray’s for the match and he stood a decent chance of pulling off the upset.

Murray voiced a complaint to chair umpire Carlos Bernardes that the court had holes in it, with the implication that court condition was the reason for the spate of injuries.

The Scot moves into the quarterfinals, where he will take on Tomas Berdych.
