  • Murray rallies to reach Miami semifinal

    3/29/12 5:10 AM | Kelli DeMario
World No. 4 Andy Murray advanced to the final four at the Sony Ericsson Open after rallying to oust world No. 9 Janko Tipsarevic. The former Miami champion will take on either Rafael Nadal or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semifinal.

Fourth seed Andy Murray overcame a slow start to his quarterfinal match with 9th seed Janko Tipsarevc. The Scot fell behind by a set and a break before rallying to a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory. The 24-year-old converted six of eight break points through two hours and 39 minutes of play.

After drawing level at a set apiece, Murray broke to 2-1 in the deciding set. Double match point came at 5-4 for the 24-year-old, who closed the match as Tipsarevic missed a forehand.

"Today's match was really important for me to get through after how it was going, (fighting) back after being a break down a few times in the second set," said the world No. 4. "And then also, at the end of the third set when I was up a break, he had break point in a tight game, and I came up with some big serves and served my way out of trouble, which is important.

"(They were) tough, tough conditions. But I thought I struck the ball pretty well from the back of the court," Murray explained.

"I was hitting it pretty clean but needed to make better shot selection. Because of the wind, I was maybe trying to hit it too close to the line and not building the points as much I needed to. So when I did that, I did a bit better."

Murray is slated to face either world No. 2 Rafael Nadal or world No. 6 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga for a spot in the championship final.

c'mon deuce, you have no idea what we Rafans went through last can freely consider Andy's match a 'calm one' :) comparing to the one we had to live with...I am exhausted myself only by watching the match...just think how Rafa must be feeling right now...

Well, we Rafans and Andyfans can unite our forces tomorrow and hopefully enjoy the match...Let the best man win! I just hope they do not kill each other on the court...this is certainly going to be a long, demanding season...
