Ernests Gulbis won his second career ATP World Tour title, after rallying to upend top seed Mardy Fish Sunday afternoon. The Latvian came through the championship match in three sets, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
World No. 84 Ernests Gulbis captured his first title in more than a year, having downed world No. 9 Mardy Fish in three sets. The 22-year-old dropped the opening set, but regrouped to take the match in two hours and 43 minutes, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
After splitting the first two sets, Gulbis broke in the opening game of the third. The Latvian pocketed an insurance break to lead 4-1. He missed a chance to close the match serving 5-2, but recovered to earn match point at 5-4. A well-timed forehand winner sealed the title in three sets.
Gulbis completed his effort with 10 aces and three of six break points converted.
