Former champion Juan Martin Del Potro advanced to the last eight, after taking out veteran James Blake late Wednesday. The Argentine is joined by Yen-Hsun Lu, who upset 3rd seed Marcos Baghdatis.

Second seed Juan Martin Del Potro made a successful start to the tournament, having downed American James Blake in straight sets. After winning the opening set, the Argentine led 3-1 in the second-set tie-break. Four match points came at 6-2 for the 22-year-old, who closed the match on his second chance after an hour and 43 minutes of play. Del Potro finished the night with 6 aces and 85% of his first-service points captured.
He is slated to face Ernests Gulbis for a spot in the semifinals.
Yen-Hsun Lu def. (3) Marcos Baghdatis 6-3, 6-4
World No. 76 Yen-Hsun Lu is through to the quarterfinal, following his 6-3, 6-4 upset of 3rd seed Marcos Baghdatis. The 27-year-old held 10 consecutive service games without facing a break point. Lu completed the second-round effort with 26 of 31 first-service points won through 74 minutes of play.
He will take on American Ryan Harrison in the next round.
