Marcos Baghdatis hammers Viktor Troicki in straight sets on Saturday in Kuala Lumpur. Baghdatis awaits either Janko Tipsarevic or Kei Nishikori in the final.
Marcos Baghdatis booked a spot in his 11th career ATP final and first of the season by crushing Viktor Troicki 6-3, 6-1 in the semis of the Malaysian Open on Saturday afternoon. Baghdatis broke serve six times and won a ridiculous 21 of 25 second-serve return points to advance in one hour and 24 minutes.
The first set saw Baghdatis join Troicki in the department of woeful serving. The 60th-ranked Cypriot donated his own serve twice mainly due to serving at 39 percent, but he seized three breaks of his own before a rare hold clinched the set at 5-3.
From there it was all over for Troicki, who slumped throughout the summer but appeared to get back on track with a pair of victories this week. Instead, the second-seeded Serb turned in another dismal performance. Troicki won a mere one of 13 second-serve points during set two and the match ended in appropriate fashion with one last Baghdatis break at 5-1.
Baghdatis, who fired three aces without double-faulting, is now 2-1 lifetime against Troicki. He is also 2-1 against Tipsarevic and 2-0 against Nishikori.
