Top seed Juan Ignacio Chela is through to the quarterfinal, after outlasting opponent Daniel Gimeno-Traver in three sets early Wednesday. The Argentina is joined by Santiago Giraldo, who upset 4th seed Fabio Fognini.

World No. 23 Juan Ignacio Chela survived an opening-round test, having held on to upend Daniel Gimeno-Traver in three sets. The veteran Argentine surrendered the second set, but regrouped to earn a critical service break in set three. Chela completed his effort with four of 7 break points converted through two hours and 15 minutes.
He is slated to meet either 7th seed Marcel Granollers or qualifier Antonio Veic for a place in the semifinal.
Santiago Giraldo def. (4) Fabio Fognini 6-3, 6-4
Santiago Giraldo is through to the final eight, following his straight-set victory over 4th seed Fabio Fognini. The 23-year-old converted five of 9 break chances, en route to a 6-3, 6-4 success in 85 minutes. The Italian struggled with his second serve, unable to capture more than 34% of the points.
Giraldo will take on either 5th seed Philipp Kohlschreiber or Albert Montanes in the next round.
