Tournament seeds Philipp Kohlschreiber and Andreas Seppi are safely through to the second round, after recording straight-set victories over respective opponents Thomas Muster and Denis Istomin.
(5) Philipp Kohschreiber def. (WC) Thomas Muster 6-3, 6-0
Fifth seed Philipp Kohlschreiber needed just 66 minutes to defeat former champion Thomas Muster on Monday. The German tallied eight aces and six service breaks, en route to a 6-3, 6-0 win in the opening round. The veteran Austrian had problems with his second serve, unable to capture more than 29% of the points.
Kohlschreiber is slated to take on Albert Montanes in the second round. Montanes defeated countryman Javier Marti in the opening round, 6-3, 6-2.
(6) Andreas Seppi def. Denis Istomin 6-2, 6-2
Sixth seed Andreas Seppi made quick work of first-round opponent Denis Istomin late Monday. The Italian held eight of eight service games without facing a break point. Seppi earned four breaks of serve through 61 minutes of competition. He completed the effort with 21 of 25 first-service points won.
Seppi will meet Pere Riba in the next round. The Spaniard dismissed Victor Hanescu in round one, 7-6(3), 6-4.
