    Juan Monaco beats Nicolas Mahut in three sets on Saturday in Indian Wells. Stanislas Wawrinka also advances, beating Robby Ginepri in three.

    (22) Juan Monaco d. Nicolas Mahut 6-4, 5-7, 6-3

    Monaco converted just four of 19 break-point opportunities, but four was enough to edge Mahut in two hours and 28 minutes in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open on Saturday. The Argentine finally capitalized on his eighth chance to break at 4-4 in the first set before serving it out one game later. With Mahut serving at 5-5, 0-30 in the second, Monaco was on the brink of victory.

    That's when Mahut started to mount a charge. The Frenchman battled back to hold then earned his first break of the match to force a third. Mahut saved two break points for an opening hold only to fall behind by two breaks and trail 5-2. Monaco failed to serve out the match, but he added one more break at 5-3 to clinch victory. Next up for the world No. 22 is John Isner, a straight-set winner over Frederico Gil.

    (23) Stanislas Wawrinka d. Robby Ginepri 4-6, 6-4, 6-4

    Wawrinka dropped the first set but recovered to beat Ginepri in one hour and 51 minutes on Saturday. It was Ginepri who got off to a fast start, saving a 0-40 situation in his opening service game before seizing a break at 1-1. The American consolidate it the entire way and served out the opener at 5-4. When Ginepri broke immediately in the second, it looked like he was on course for victory.

    Trailing 4-3, Wawrinka struck for a critical break to get back on serve. With momentum suddenly in hand, the 23rd-ranked Swiss broke again at 5-4 to set up a decisive third. Ginepri was not about to go away without a fight, but he once against cracked with the pressure on. Wawrinka broke easily at 5-4 to close out the match in style. Indian Wells' No. 23 seed will will go up against Gilles Simon on Monday.
