Ivo Karlovic won the If Stockholm Open to claim his third title this year. He joins world number one, Roger Federer, as the only players who have won at least one title on three different surfaces this season.
Swedish Thomas Johansson planned to take his third victory in Stockholm but was stopped by Ivo Karlovic and his stunning serves.
The Croatian used the only breakpoint in the first set to get ahead, and could easily hold his serve to win the first set, 6-3. Johansson looked a bit uncomfortable during the first few games, but was much more aggressive in the start of the second set.
Johansson, ranked number 55 in the world in the beginning of this week, managed to break Karlovic’s serve already in the second game of the set. Karlovic looked somewhat troubled when Johansson demonstrated solid play from the baseline, enough to hold serve and win the set, 6-3.
The seventh seed Croatian got off to a great start in the deciding set, racing through to a 5-0 game lead. He sealed his victory the same way as he won the semi-final yesterday, by firing 4 straight aces.
Karlovic adds Stockholm to his previous two titles this season, on grass in Nottingham and clay in Houston.
