Thomas Johansson will be the only Swede in the quarterfinals on Friday. On Thursday he defeated French Michael Llodra in two tough sets.
Johansson opened the match with winning eight straight points to take a 2-0 lead. Llodra then reduced the lead by hitting four aces in a row in his next service game. Both players then held their serve during the rest of the set and Johansson won it by 6-4.
65-ranked Llodra had three breakpoints in the first game of the second set, but the Swede saved them all. No breaks of serve and the set went on to a tiebreak. Two-time champion Johansson secured the win on his fourth matchpoint and is now through to his seventh quarterfinal in the If Stockholm Open.
Good for the tournament that at least one swede is through to the quarterfinals.
The numbers of spectators is a dissapointment.
