Arnaud Clement needed 2 hours and 30 minutes to defeat home player Michael Ryderstedt.
First set went on to a tiebreak after no breaks of serve. Clement, who had missed ten breakpoints during the set, won the tiebreak with 7-2.
248-ranked Ryderstedt converted the only breakpoint in second set and won it by 6-3. He had no problems holding his own serve and lost only two points on his first serve.
In the deciding set, Ryderstedt had three breakpoints at 2-2. Clement managed to save them all, and then broke Ryderstedts serve in the very next game. The French kept his head cool and won the match with 6-3 in the final set.
