Gilles Simon is through to the round of 16 in Hamburg, following his straight-set victory over Sergiy Stakhovsky. The Frenchman is joined by Jarkko Nieminen, who upset 10th seed Alexandr Dolgopolov.

World No. 18 Gilles Simon made a successful start to the tournament, having upended Sergiy Stakhovsky in straight sets. The 26-year-old Frenchman secured 7 of 11 break points, en route to a 6-2, 6-1 victory in just 62 minutes. A struggling Stakhovsky won just 42% of his first-service points and 38% of his second.
Simon is scheduled to take on veteran Jarkko Nieminen in the next round.

Jarkko Nieminen advanced to the third round, after holding on to oust 10th seed Alexandr Dolgopolov. The Finn converted 3 of 6 break point chances to seal the deciding set, 6-4. He completed the second-round effort, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 in an hour and 26 minutes.
