  World No. 7 Gael Monfils made a successful start in Hamburg, taking out qualifier Albert Ramos in straight sets. The top seed is through to face veteran Radek Stepanek in the next round.
  
  World No. 7 Gael Monfils recovered after a first-round loss in Stuttgart, having ousted Spanish qualifier Albert Ramos on Wednesday, 6-4, 6-2. The 24-year-old Frenchman saved 5 of 5 break points, through to a victory in one hour and 13 minutes. He completed his effort with 5 aces and 27 of 32 first-service points won.
  
  Monfils is slated to take on Czech Radek Stepanek in the third round. The veteran upended 13th seed Andreas Seppi in the round of 16, 6-1, 7-5.
